Yep, it’s been busy here at the Nick Sherman camp – it really feels like I haven’t even touched my own material because I’ve been working so closely with him. However, this stuff is wicked fun to be a part of!

We’ve had 2 packed CD release shows (Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout), with still one more to come in Fort Frances, and people are loving the disc and the full band live show.

Nick Sherman – “Drag Your Words Through” CD Release show

It’s been all over my facebook and twitter pages throughout the past year pretty much, but I’ve been producing a full length album for my good friend Nick Sherman, called ‘Drag Your Words Through’.

The album has been completed, and the band is all rehearsed (I finally get to play electric guitar again!), and the release party is this upcoming Friday, January 20th. We’re all stoked about the way that the album came together, with tons of guest performers playing everything from pots and pans to accordions, banjos, and horns.

O Holy Night

I’ve been meaning to record a Christmas song for quite some time now. Finally, I’ve gotten around to it! This is one of my favourites; O Holy Night. I loved singing it with the Thunder Bay Barbershop Chorus, and there are some very powerful versions. However, I changed it up substantially. I started with samples from an a cappella bassline that I time-stretched (originally from some of the “Pitch Pipes” demos), added some salsa/latin/reggae flavour to it, and then laid down the vocals. I kept it to only the first two verses though. I also did what I think was a nifty little solo!

The whole thing was recorded at home, with all the instruments and vocals by me, except for my sister, chiming in on the 2nd verse.

After having done soundtracks for short films, commercials and web-series, etc for a few years now, I’ve finally assembled a demo reel.

Birthsgiving

No, it’s not what it sounds like.

This is the combination of my Birthday and Thanksgiving. For the past 2 years I’ve been in Ottawa on my birthday, but this year I got to hang out with my sister Megan in Guelph for both that and the long weekend. It was a nice break in the middle of a tour after several days of really long drives.

Eastern Canada

Wondering where the post about the big art show in North Bay is? So am I! Soon I’ll have some photos to show everyone, but until then, here’s how the rest of the Eastern Canada’s been going:

Inside a lighthouse in Victoria, PE

After picking up Shannon in Toronto, we hauled our tired bodies to the East coast as fast as possible, stopping in Ottawa and Riviere Du Loup to sleep on our way to the first Eastern show in Sackville. After that, we traipsed across the Confederation Bridge to PEI for the very first time. I was attending Contact East in Summerside, but part of the conference also had us traveling to Victoria and Charlottetown to see some showcases. It was great to network with maritime presenters and other regional and national artists. Halfway through the conferences, October 1st rolled around, so I had some things planned for Shannon’s birthday, a tour of Summerside and a Titanic dinner theatre. The tour however, was something far more exciting than it sounds. We met up with Greg at Segway PEI for a ride in the rain around the downtown of Summerside. If you’re ever looking for something fun to do while on PEI, I’d highly recommend giving him a call! You can check out his facebook page here.

Trout Forest Music Festival & Wired 4 Sound

This past August I performed at the Trout Forest Music Festival in Ear Falls, ON. Not only did I get to share stages with other loopers, but also other folk, roots, and miscellaneous performers! It was a lot of fun being on site with everyone, and I’m excited to do it again in the coming years.
