It’s been a while since you’ve heard some new original songs from me. Well, here are two brand new ones, available exclusively as a digital download.
Blue is an old crowd favourite that I’ve rewritten and re-recorded to be a super upbeat folk-rock sing-along. I want to hear you sing along next time you hear it live!
An Ode To This City is a newer song that I wrote when touring in the US, and embodies some of my bittersweet feelings when I come home from a tour.

Let me know what you think!

Jean-Paul De Roover releases “Blue”: a new 2-song digital single

April 4, 2016

Jean-Paul De Roover is releasing his first new recordings since 2013’s “Complexity in Simplicity,” an album called “a clean, sharp, and resonating chapter of music” (Mady Ritzer – The Navigator). The “Blue” digital single features two new songs: Blue and An Ode To This City. The recordings cover both sunny optimism and pensive sincerity in a post-pop/folk blend delivered by Thunder Bay’s own sonic architect.

Blue was originally intended for De Roover’s last album in 2013, “but it didn’t fit the aesthetic. It still became a crowd favourite over the years so I knew it deserved its own spotlight” he says. While the upbeat group sing-along is very reminiscent of his live performances as a one-man-band, the b-side of the single strikes a more melancholic chord. An Ode To This City is De Roover’s reflection on coming home after a long tour, but it still speaks to anyone that’s had the experience of returning to their hometown to find that life has moved on without them.

“These recordings are meant to be a little taste of what’s to come, as well as my chance to try something different, both as a songwriter and producer,” De Roover says. These two songs were recorded and mixed entirely at Blueprints, De Roover’s home studio – a facility that only came into existence over the past year and a half with the help of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC). Mastering was completed by Thunder Bay ex-pat Jon Tornblom, who now owns and operates Transparent Mastering in Hamilton, ON.

The 2-song project was supported by De Roover’s fans through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign held last Fall. His contributors helped him get to Europe for a tour and in exchange were given new music, exclusive perks, merchandise, experiences and more. Additional support for the project was granted by FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings).

*The “Blue” digital single will be released on 04.04.2016, available through digital music retailers (like iTunes, Google Play, etc.) as well as streaming via www.soundcloud.com/jeanpaulderoover
